WEEKLY CHATTER – 1st OCTOBER 2023
What a week it’s been in Rotary!
Two weeks ago, Murray Bridge showcased two amazing concerts, The Rhythms of Ireland and the Australian Girls Choir, which many Rotarians attended.
Anyone wondering about the music bursary, you only had to be there and listen to the Murray Bridge High School band to know it is money well spent. A big thank you to all Rotarian host families, I am sure it was appreciated by the girls and by you.
The Peace Pole ceremony at the High School on Thursday week was another highlight for our Rotary Club to be involved in. A ceremony such as this on International World Peace Day was amazing. A BIG THANK YOU to Roxanne Rowland and Samual Cozens for the time and effort they put in to make this event happen.
Well done to Lyn Sickerdick on receiving a $10,000 educational grant.
Thanks to John Whimpress for taking on the conference duties.
Please don’t forget there is no meeting at the Golf club Tuesday night we are having a combined meeting with Mobilong on Wednesday the 4th at the RSL 6.00 for 6.30pm.
Bunnings BBQ on Saturday, Strawberry fete selling calendars on Sunday at Wellington, waving goodbye to our Calperum camp students on Monday it’s all happening thanks to everyone involved.
See you Wednesday night at the RSL.
Gordon.
Eskys Needed
Now we know you are probably using your esky this weekend as you celebrate Labour Day but maybe you have an abundance of Eskys and would like to donate a surplus Esky to our Club.
Currently our BBQ trailer has two very large eskys but those using the trailer have requested an additional two to enable them to be placed close to our selling areas.
If you can help, please contact Roxanne Rowland or Jack Reddin

Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) from Tamil Nadu – India to South Australia March 2024
As a reciprocal invitation, district 9510 has invited a group of 8 persons from District 3000 (Tamil Nadu – South East India) to visit South Australia from 8 March to 18 March 2024. This includes attending our D9510 Conference in Loxton 15-17 March.
To manage this visit we are seeking interested Rotarians to act as host families for this group.
In addition, we will need some assistance with sightseeing trips and Rotary club visits.
If you or your club would like to be involved, as a host family or one of the organising team members, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Peace celebrated at Murray Bridge High School this morning with the middle school, Rotary, and the Murraylands Multicultural Network. Mayor Wayne Thorley and Adrian Pederick MP also attended. The Peace Pole program had its beginnings in 1955. You can now find Peace Poles in close to 200 countries with over 250,000 placed around the world. They symbolise our common wish for peace. They stand as a silent vigil, at the enterance of the school, reminding us to think and act in the spirit of PEACE. TODAY is World Peace Day. Rotary is celebrating with 100 Peace poles in South Australia and also 100 years of Rotary. "May Peace prevail on Earth" is the catch cry in 4 languages on each pole. Twenty languages are represented in the 5 poles planted at the school so far. They were read out by the students and guests in language. Rotarian Sam Cozens read a message from the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. "As we mark this International Day of Peace, people and our planet are in crisis. Conflicts driving record numbers from their homes. Deadly fires, raging floods, and soaring temperatures, poverty, inequalities and injustices. This year's theme reminds us that peace is not automatic - Peace is the result of ACTION. Action to end war on our planet towards sustainable development goals and ensure that no one is left behind. Action to uphold and protect human rights and dignity of every person - especially as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Decleration of Human Rights. Action to use the timeless tools of diplomacy, dialogue and collaboration to defuse tensions and end conflict. And Action for those millions of people living thru the horrors of war.
Peace is not only a noble vision for humanity! Peace is a call to ACTION". John Scarvelis.
A message from Namuun Batsaikhan
Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Gerege in Mongolia
Dear All, For those who may not be familiar with me, I am Namuun, the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Gerege in Mongolia. As we approach the conclusion of this incredibly rewarding and exciting project, I would like to express my deepest gratitude on behalf of our club and the beneficiaries to our fellow Australian Rotarians. I'm thrilled to report that everything inside the container has arrived in excellent condition, complete with some delightful surprises. It was evident that every person involved in this project invested a great deal of time and care into packing the container. From meticulously taping and cataloging items to even including a printed manual for the playground, the dedication and love poured into this endeavor were truly heartwarming. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Troy, who, as a non-Rotarian, has generously offered assistance to the best of his abilities and experience. Most notably, Mr. Jack Reddin and Jill Reddin deserve special recognition for serving as the driving force and masterminds behind this entire project. Without their invaluable contributions, none of this would have been possible. Our Interact Club at School 115 also played a significant role by assisting in the unloading process, for which I am immensely thankful. The unpacking operation took approximately 5-6 hours, and their contribution was invaluable. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Veloo Foundation for their exceptional cooperation and for graciously providing lunch for our members and the children from the Interact Club. Additionally, I would like to share some valuable lessons we've learned from this project, which may prove useful for our five clubs in future endeavors: 1. When packing, it's essential to clearly indicate the quantity of EACH item inside the container. We encountered difficulties when identifying materials during customs clearance 2. 2. Utilizing a logistics company has proven to be highly efficient, as it ensured the safe transport of our cargo without any mishaps. Thank you all once again for your outstanding support and dedication to this project. Your generosity and commitment have made a significant difference, and we look forward to future collaborations and opportunities to serve our communities together.
Warm regards, Namuun
Immediate Past President Rotary Club of Gerege Mongolia 13th September 2023
Dear Jack, First of all, I would like to say that we are overwhelmed by your generosity and effort you have put in loading the container with the much needed donation items that will be used at our kindergarten, library, summer camp, sewing center and community outreach. As we have unloaded and organized all donation items, we have specific use for every bit of the items which I will share in detail in this email. We have just unloaded the container this Saturday with the support from the Rotarians and Veloo Foundation Volunteers. On Saturday, the goal was to unload, sort and organize the donations where the following works were done;
