WEEKLY CHATTER – 7th JANUARY 2024
Happy New Year to all. I-hope you all enjoyed your time with family and friends over the festive season.
Thanks again to Bev and John for the great job they did for our Christmas breakfast which was much appreciated.
It was great to catch up at the Murray Bridge Hotel for a shared lunch on Saturday with Emil Melgaard a past exchange student from Denmark in 2009 – 2010. Emil and his family are touring Australia on a family holiday to many places he visited while on exchange. On returning home we’ve asked him to say hello to Mary.
I hopefully you have all read your emails and come to the home of the mighty Blues, Imperials for our meetings in January due to no chef at the Golf Club. Please be patient with the move.
On a sadder note, we note the passing of Past President Chris Dutton. Chris was President in 1976 - 77.
Look forward to seeing you all Tuesday night at Johnson Park.

Christmas Breakfast
Thanks John & Bev
Rotary Christmas Breakfast on Tuesday with a seven am start at the Scarvelis home, Eastside Murray Bridge overlooking the valley and the River Murray. Brisk early, but still pleasant with freshly stewed apricots, toast, bacon, sausages and eggs, hash browns, bbqed union, tomatoes, fruit juice with lots of Christmas cheer. Mayor Wayne Thorley thanked the members for their work in the Murraylands community and President Gordon also wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We look forward to 2024 with continuing as well as new projects and lots of activities. The Club has now sold all of its one thousand 2024 calendars highlighting the flood, thanks to Jaque Best and her team. This means a substantial amount of money going back into the Murraylands community through the various local clubs who assisted with sales. The Monarto Safari Park Project in January and ongoing, Rotary Swap Meet in February, and the Yuntu- Walun Multicultural Festival in March are three large events coming up early in the year to include in your diaries. In 2024 Rotary celebrates a Century in South Australia and the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge celebrates its 70th birthday. Merry Christmas and stay safe !!!! John Scarvelis
