Centenary Celebration DinnerThe District Community Impact Expo was held on 3rd June in Bonython Hall, North Terrace. The aim to connect Rotarians and the community was successful with many Rotarians and some community visitors attending. The keynote speakers were excellent and outlined many of the changing trends we are seeing in Australia today. Following the Expo was the Celebration Dinner. Guests at the Dinner included the chair of SAMHRI Board, Hon. Hieu Van Le AC, President Elect of Rotary International, Gordon McInally and the current RI President's Representative, Bryn Styles. The evening was a celebration of the last twelve months and a time to reflect on those Rotarians who have died since our last Conference. We were entertained during the evening with music provided by Dr Kim Burley and later by the Hon. Hieu Van Le AC. MC for the evening was the effervescent Tony Pilkington OAM. As Rotary approaches its Centenary of establishment in SA, a District Committee outlined a Centenary Project to which we are all encouraged to contribute. The Project is to establish a Legacy Program to provide two PHD Scholarship for Aboriginal health workers to provide and promote culturally appropriate health care to our first nations communities with a view to reversing the trend of increasing chronic disease. We will hear more of this over the coming months. |
