This week’s president’s report celebrates Easter (using the Gregorian calendar), where we focus on renewal, hope and ‘Service Above Self’ reflecting on the triumph of light over darkness. Easter is celebrated worldwide with a blend of solemn religious traditions, vibrant, unique customs and festive foods – not to mention, lots of chocolates. At this time in the calendar, Rotary encourages members to celebrate with joy while renewing their commitment to serving communities and spreading compassion. We also acknowledge those Rotarians who celebrate using the Julian calendar, resulting in Easter being celebrated later in April.
How did you and your family celebrate the 4-day weekend? – Lawn Bowling with team mates, a beer before the football, visiting relatives – here or interstate, photographing the beautiful Morgan horse (check that out with Penny), a BBQ/lunch with family and friends or having a quiet 4 days at home. Have you consumed enough chocolate to last a life time or are you still longing for more? What-ever you have undertaken, I hope it has been relaxing and enjoyable.
Another exciting speaker at last week’s gathering – Sandi Fulcher – from End Trachoma. Sandi is a member of the Rotary e-Club of Change-Makers and she shared her passion working with communities in areas of the Northern Territory to reduce incidents of trachoma through education in personal hygiene, increased clean water supplies and the supply of personal hygiene items to allow all to have their own items, thereby reducing the spread of the bacterial infection. I am sure our club will continue to support this amazing initiative after being reminded how simple it is to reduce the numbers.
All Club Leaders and Directors are invited to attend the Club Leaders Learning Seminar – (formally District Assembly) on Sunday May 31st at St Michael’s College at Henley Beach. It is at this event that the new 2027 Board members come together to learn together and explore how our club will “Create Lasting Change” in the new Rotary year. I suggest we look at car-pooling for the event. Put the date in your diary and let me (or President-Elect Simon) know if you will be attending and/or would like to share the travel. See details in the poster below and register using the suggested link/QR code
