While undertaking some study units in Rotary this week, I was reminded “An engaged member becomes an inspired leader. Participate actively, volunteer passionately, and bring your ideas forward. Rotary grows stronger when every member contributes” This quote was demonstrated so strongly at the Committee discussions at last week’s gathering. I enjoy observing our Club Members in strong discussions, contributing their ideas and suggestions, and then stepping up to volunteer and turn these ideas into community actions. These discussions are always followed by Directors Reports of the discussions and actions to take to Board for commitment by the Club in a formal way. Thanks to Directors for getting these reports to Secretary Julieanne in such a timely manner for her to be able to form the Board Agenda so all Board Members have time to digest, discuss and be prepared for actions at the meeting
Our Christmas in July Fundraising activity is one such action – Suellen and the members of the Vocational Committee working tirelessly to make this event a success. Check in with Suellen, to see if there is anything you can do to assist this large project. Have you shared the invitation/flier with corporate groups you have contact with? Invite whole tables, smaller groups or even individuals to come along and be served by Rotarians throughout the night while raising much needed funds for the worthy cause of The Flying Doctor Service. One table has been booked by Old Tailem Town with a view to thank their Volunteers for all the efforts given freely to the Pioneer Adventure Day. What a great effort by these community minded individuals who appreciate the value of their volunteers.
On Wednesday morning a number of our members attended the Murray Bridge News Autumn Business Breakfast at The Bridgeport Hotel. Peri and his team have been hard at work to bring this event to the forefront of the business world in Murray Bridge and while the numbers may have been down on previous breakfasts meetings, it is always a great way for Rotarians to engage with the Business Community on a formal platform. Jack carried this out admirably, when he spoke of the upcoming Christmas in July event, fundraising for the Flying Doctor Service, and distributing fliers to the audience to further spread the word. Thanks Jack
As reported by Jim and the Community Committee, the Stobie Pole Art project continues with Stobie Pole No 8 (corner of Verdun Rd and Gray St) being completed. Ideas for the next pole are already on the drawing board and we eagerly await the results. What a great way for Rotary to get involved in another Art in the Community Activity
We continue to have our Rotary Art Show and thanks go to those members who are undertaking their service to the visitors. It is good to see the artists being able to sell their works and further spread their talents as works are hung in business premises and private homes. Congratulations to Jacquie Best on the sale of her Art pieces – another very talented Rotarian
Our club has been a strong supporter of Murray Bridge high School Robotics Club and their initiatives to further the STEM skills of the students interested in Robotics and the challenges of competition in this field. We have been given an invitation to their next SCRIMAGE on Sunday May 31st at Murray Bridge High School. While this day is also the day of the PELS & Club Leaders Learning Seminar (District Assembly), please consider spreading the word or attending yourselves if you are not intending to participate in the Seminar
The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge lodged the Pioneer Adventure Day at Old Tailem Town as our EPIC DAY of SERVICE (celebrated on Saturday May 16th throughout the world) on Rotary International’s Epic Day of Service map, where thousands of volunteers united worldwide for impactful projects. Transforming community lives, our members, volunteers and friends came together for this extraordinary day of service. The aim of the day was to unite volunteers, address REAL needs, and aspire HOPE. Thanks to all club members and your friends, who helped with the countless hours sourcing, picking and packing dehydrated fruits and vegetables, collecting goods to donate, crochet and knitting beanies, making and packing biscuits and the countless other jobs on the day – the event reminds us what is possible when people choose action, compassion, and community over division
A message from President Ann-Marie about RC Mobilong’s Shave for a cause – “As mentioned, I will be having my head shaved on Wednesday 3rd June to raise money for Kai Martin’s cause – helping to raise awareness and education on family violence. I appreciate any support you can give to this cause”
This week we have:
Tuesday Evening – Guest speaker – Kate Mason on The Problem with Carp
Rotary International’s Epic Day of Service has seen thousands of volunteers come together across the globe to make a difference in their communities. On May 16th, 2026 various Rotary Clubs participated in the event, showcasing the power of community service
This THANK YOU message comes from Bill Marles, RC Adelaide Central and part of the coordination team of the Pioneer Adventure Day at Old Tailem Town –
“The passion of so many Rotarians never ceases to amaze me – and without all of you, we could not have made Rotary’s Pioneer Adventure Day so incredibly successful Flick through over 100 photos to paint the picture for yourself: https://rotarypioneeradventureday.au/photo-gallery
About 220 volunteers helped run it … including around 140 Rotary members from approximately 15 clubs.
Around 600 farmers came along.
Over $50,000 worth of groceries, household items and farm supplies were given away as families left
The entire event totalled around $130,000 (including giveaways) to support farming families doing it tough.
At the “Health Hub”, 7 farmers were identified with potentially life-threatening conditions where immediate follow-up may well have saved lives: • 2 with advanced melanoma • 4 with advanced undiagnosed diabetes • 1 with blood pressure of 225/115 …and even more concerns identified through cholesterol and related testing.
Our friends at Fat Farmers, Adelaide University and Flinders University already have systems in place to follow these people up.
Beyond the serious side, the day was full of – laughter, dancing, music, food, entertainment, community connection
Some farmers arrived planning to stay for 2 hours … and left 6 hours later. We think that says it all
The day frankly could not have gone any better if it tried. It seemed to tick every box — a huge relief for everyone involved.
A MASSIVE shout out to the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, President Roxanne Rowland
I’ve finally met someone who NEVER sleeps
OLD TAILEM TOWN owners Tina and Danny Squires went above and beyond — opening not only their village, but also their hearts to Rotary and our farming communities
On the day, magnificent contributors helping physically run the event included (alphabetically):
Rotary Clubs of:- Adelaide, Adelaide Central, Adelaide Light, Burnside, Hyde Park, Mobilong, Mt Barker, Murray Bridge, Prospect, Regency Park, St Peters, Strathalbyn, Tailem Bend, Unley, West Lakes
Inner Wheel Clubs of:- Adelaide Hills, Holdfast Marion, Mobilong, North East Sunset, Tea Tree Gully, IW District A70 (SA), IW Australia – Disaster Relief Fund
Many of the clubs above also financially sponsored farming families to enjoy a FREE day of fun and health checks, along with support from the Rotary Clubs of:- Adelaide Parks, Alice Springs, Blackwood, Eastwood, Edwardstown, Flagstaff Hill, Goolwa, Holdfast Bay, Morialta, Norwood, Somerton Park
THE DAY had so many elements.
Community groups from around Tailem Bend partnered with Rotary to help make it happen.
To finish off — a personal THANK YOU to every single person who, in one way or another, helped make Rotary Pioneer Adventure Day so marvellous.
Following an ever-growing list of phone calls, emails and Facebook messages from farming families BLOWN AWAY by Rotary’s generosity and community spirit … we should all feel incredibly proud of what was achieved together
PS – they want to know if we’re doing it again next year!!”
Thank you to Bill Marles for this email published recently and now shared on Rotary District Facebook page.
People are thanking the volunteers and organisations involved, highlighting the impact of their selfless work. The Epic Day of Service demonstrates Rotary’s commitment to service above self, with many clubs continuing their efforts beyond the event
