It’s been a busy week -  bbq’s on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.  Thank you to all who are helping, we couldn’t do all of this without you.

Lyn and Simon Sickerdick are looking for Musicals that will be copied into the Music for Dementia Library especially Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair the musical and others.  If you can help contact Lyn.

On a sad note, Rob and Jan Smyth are relocating to Adelaide to be closer to family and specialists. It is sad to see them go but wish them all the best with their move.

This coming week’s meeting is one not to miss.  There has been much publicity about cyber security and scams via email and text messages lately.  Sergeant David Brown will certainly tell us what to look out for, how to tighten up our internet security and answer some of our questions.  A good meeting to include partners & friends.

Also on Tuesday will be welcoming new member Penny Heighes.  I spoke to Penny on the telephone and was amazed at what she has and is involved in. I personally am very interested in her involvement with carriage driving. I have driven a cart drawn by Shetland Ponies but don’t think that comes close to what Penny does.

Thought for the week from Thomas A. Edison:

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." - Reflects the determination and commitment in Rotary's pursuit of community service and global change.

Thanks Ron & Bronwyn

Rotarian Ron Lehmann was acknowledged for 42 years of service to the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge this week. Ron and Bronwyn are leaving Murray Bridge for the Riverland and have both made major contributions to our Club. Ron was Rotary President in 2002-3 and an outstanding motivational leader and had a very successful year as President with projects including Cash Calendar, youth projects including supporting the formation of the Interact Club at the Murray Bridge High School, the Rotary Art Show, Mental Health Awarness Forum at Unity College, the Drug proofing your kids program, Leadership Workshop at MBHS and the Going Bush with Rotary was conducted in his year for the second time. He and Bronwyn were always supporters and advocates for our International Youth Exchange Program. Ron had input at both local and District level. Ron was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in 1997. Naomi Lehmann their daughter had a very successful International Youth Exchange to Mexico in 1987.Thank you Ron and Bronwyn both for your Service to Rotary. John Scarvelis

Kayla's Story

Rotary Youth Exchanges have been very important in the personal development of young people in the Murraylands. Kayla McDiarmid is a great example being connected to the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge on a youth Exchange to New Zealand in 2011. She told us at our dinner meeting this week this sparked her love for travel and led to her career in the travel industry. She started with Easy Travel and Cruise in Murray Bridge as her first job and has travelled to 52 different countries since including being "stuck in NZ" during covid where she managed a Backpackers. In 2018 she moved to England, has worked for Busabout in Europe and conducted walking tours. The most memorable includes Greece, Croatia and Albania, Warsaw (Food Culture and resilience after WW2), Egypt, India & Sri Lanka. She has now landed in Strathalbyn working with Greg Close again at Live the Dream Travel. You could tell from her confident presentation and manner the personal growth she has achieved. Chair Ali Bolt, obviously also inspired, sincerely thanked her for her presentation. John Scarvelis

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
