Congratulations President SimonWell done President Simon and your team for a great year under extremely difficult circumstances. Your leadership has been appreciated by all. Meeting Report 15th June 2021Past Rotary District Governor Bob Cooper was our guest at this weeks Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Diner Meeting to speak about Rotary's Drought Relief Projects. A range of projects have been undertaken in the District this year including transporting hay to farms in drought affected areas, eg 8 semi trailers delivered hay to Yunta, Distributing gift vouchers so that work could be created in drought affected areas from grant funds, Events to bring rural communities together like Drought Muster and Make it Rain Dance. Golf Day at Karoonda was another source of connection. Younger farmers were encouraged to stay on the land and potatoes for extra feed was another innovation for support. Murray Bridge Rotarians Sam Cozens led the effort from our club with Roger Wickes providing his grant application skills and Roxanne Rowland, Lesley Murray, Lyn and Simon Sickerdick, Darryl Webb, Sue Foster, Jenny Phillips and Liz Cozens supporting the Karoonda efforts. Food Bank VisitThe Rotary Club of Murray Bridge paid a vocational visit to the Murray Bridge Foodbank on Adelaide Road to experience progress on Tuesday evening. Foodbank Manager Bronwyn Tyler led us around the premises. It is staffed by volunteers from the ages of 25 to 83 years with about 25 agencies now participating including Housing SA, Church Groups, AC Care, MAYDEC, the Australian Migrant Resource Centre, and Salvos. It serves the District with people coming from as far away as Keith, Murrayville, Lucindale, Lameroo, Strathalbyn, Meningie, and Cambrai showing how much Murray Bridge has developed as a Regional Centre for people to do their shopping as a day visit. Vouchers are given out by the Agencies with a $45 per family limit so budgeting is encouraged. Some of the items are free. There is a kitchen facility available for demonstrations to learn food preparation and cooking. About 40 people per day are currently using the facility. Several local Rotary Clubs have supported the establishment of the facility and continue to provide some of the volunteers. |
