Dear All at Rotary Club of Murray Bridge,
Greetings from The School of St Jude.
This year is a big year for Anania and his peers as they study hard to prepare for the Standard 7 National Examinations being held in October. Students in every school across the country participate in these national examinations which determine their progress onto secondary education.
Recently our Standard 7 students undertook a number of internal exams. As a result, our academic leaders are aware that Anania is struggling with his subjects more than had been apparent so far this year.
With the government mandated school shut-down due to COVID-19, our academic team are unsurprised that some students are experiencing a decline in their academic performance at this time and are striving to help all our students catch up with the curriculum.
The government have adapted the academic calendar for all schools to take into account the missed months of in-class learning. Our Standard 7 students will have no end of term or mid-term break from now until these important exams in October. They are also having extra classes on Saturday mornings to ensure all of the curriculum is covered in time.
At St Jude’s our academic team work tirelessly to prepare our students for the national examinations with tailored lessons, extra tuition if required, and a range of mock exams that familiarise them with the demands of the examination week.
Anania will now be receiving extra tuition after school and during holiday breaks to ensure he achieves to the best of his ability. Our academic leaders are committed to providing any additional support our students’ may need to meet the standards required to progress to the next stage of St Jude’s academic scholarships. We assure you they are working closely with Anania and his family to offer the most appropriate assistance for his needs.
We want you to be aware that if a student gets a Grade below B in their Standard 7 National Examinations, they may not meet St Jude’s academic requirements to be eligible to apply for the next scholarship phase. This is the ordinary- level (O-level) academic scholarship covering Form 1 to Form 4 of their secondary education. Should Anania not meet St Jude’s academic requirements, he will be eligible to proceed with secondary education at other schools.
In Tanzania there are over 16,500 primary schools and, for secondary education, over 4,500 ordinary-level schools (Forms 1 – 4), but only 540 advanced-level schools (Forms 5 – 6). Proceeding onto secondary school is a highly competitive process favouring the students with the greatest potential to utilise this privileged opportunity.
All at Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, Anania is very appreciative of your support. It is due to the generosity of sponsors like you that we are able to continue fighting poverty through education and educating the future leaders of Tanzania.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.
Kind regards,
Upendo.
