What a great week - the rain has been amazing - although some will say ‘too little’ and others will say ‘too much’ - whichever way you feel, it’s been great to see the beginnings of green in the paddocks, showing there will be growth and Spring will come. Hope you were able to remain warm whatever you have been doing this week.
Have you been following the journey of the Hay Run from WA? The convoy of trucks has been amazing and the logistical exercise to deliver thousands of bales of desperately needed fodder to a number of areas grappling with drought has brought many together to make it work. This is what makes Australia great.
On Tuesday 22nd July, Rob Walters and I attended White Card Training in order to continue our efforts with RORP commencing early September with the first playground removal. All those involved from the G7 Clubs will be using the first removal as the trial for the new process as we learn our new roles. More on this in the weeks to come.
Sandy Dalton and I attended the 78th Zonta Birthing Kits Assembly Day at Blackwood on Saturday afternoon. It was a cold day, but we were warmly welcomed by the Zonta members as we packed 1000 birthing kits in just under 2 hours with the help of 60 other volunteers. More than half were community members and not members of Zonta or any other Service Club. The chatting amongst the helpers did not deter the nimbleness of the gloved hands as we counted, folded, and wrapped the kits in the plastic sheets before placing them in the plastic bags ready for distribution in the coming months. To date Zonta has packed 70,000 kits and as we were informed, that’s potentially 70,000 mother’s lives saved, and 70,000 babies given a safer start to life. Throughout the 2 hours, Zonta members shared their experiences of achieving a successful outcome and also their planning tips, with Sandy and myself. The journey home consisted of chatter about how we could deliver our Assembly Day in the coming months - lots of ideas generated. See Sandy, Sue or myself if you would like to help organise this event.
Have you organised your guests for the Hamlin Fistula High Tea on Sunday 17th August? I have sent out quite a few email invitations and delivered some invitations to those who are not as tech savvy. Please ensure your guests let Marg know - for catering purposes - we would hate to have too little food on the day. Remind those unable to attend, of the option of being able to donate in lieu of attendance and the information for this is in the Bulletin.
Groundbreaking news - Timor-Leste has officially been certified Malaria Free by the World Health Organisation - a monumental achievement made possible through the dedicated efforts of Rotarians worldwide, including an incredible effort by a group of Tasmanian Rotarians
And Remember “ At the end of the day, all that really matters is that your loved ones are well, you’ve done your best, and you’re thankful for all you have”

After our visit to Sticky Pixels a few weeks ago, Phillippa Ross the owner of the business was encouraged by Jim Cundy to hold “Project Pour Paint Classes. The first of these classes was held last Wednesday evening and Maria Cundy and me, suitably decked out in old clothes, attended along with ladies of varying ages and a couple of younger children to support Phillippa in this new project.
Phillippa guided us through several basic techniques of pain pouring and some creations were so, so according to the artist who created them, and others were fantastic. Despite our successes or failures, it was a lot of fun.
I personally encourage any members, wives or partners to come along to these classes. It doesn’t really matter whether you are artistic or not, it is a great opportunity to met new and old friends and have a lot of laughs.
My first creation which my daughters say is “pretty “and “looks great” - resident art critic Rob doesn’t like the colours and was distinctly unimpressed.
