Gidday, we’re working our way back home currently in Alice Springs & heading out to Kings Canyon for a few days. Fridays drive was quite interesting we went from 30 degrees down to 15 degrees & back into warm clothes, we are looking forward to sharing our experiences with everyone on our return.

Tuesday 18th August meeting, vocational visit to Carpet Court Adelaide Rd. Murray Bridge. Thank you for the organisers, Jack & Jenny P, great support from our Rotarians, Partners & Guests, with Carpet Court sharing their story and creating connections toward partnerships within the Murray Bridge community. The food looked amazing, supplied, and delivered “a big thank you“ Josh’s IGA Murray Bridge West (John and Vicki) from just down the road.

This week I received a story to share which relates to the Callington Primary School, with support toward our Rotary Club of Murray Bridge and the Rotary Pioneer Adventure Day.

Thank you, Sarah Elliot, from Callington Primary School for the communication you have provided us

Rotary Club project:
Over the last 3 years, our school (Callington Primary) has been generously supported by the Murray Bridge Rotary Club in various ways including, an annual outdoor camp for 2 of our senior students, an end of year fun day at Semaphore Beach with snacks and carousel rides and this year they are helping to erect a “Peace Pole” to welcome families as they enter our school. They are a very active service club and are doing amazing work supporting local and international schools, dementia patients with music enrichment and local farmers with basic living support as they navigate the recent years of drought and the current living crisis. This year in our effort to live our values of Care, Courage and Connection, we thought that, as a small contribution, and to give rather than receive, we donated all gold coin proceeds from our recent colour dress up day to the Rotary Club’s local farmers program. From your contributions, we were able to donate $90 and they were very appreciative that we thought of them.”

This story really made my day & shows why we as Rotarians work with communities through service above self, once again thank you Sarah & Principal Suyin along with Callington Primary School for your ongoing support to Rotary.

Behind the Scenes: Jenny A-W has been working on this years Murray Bridge High School Music Bursary, speaking with Choo-Lee the awardees will be interviewed mid-September with the presentation to be delivered early in Term 4.

Roxanne has spent some time down at Donations in Kind (DIK) preparing a load into a container for an overseas delivery.
Our Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds (RORP) team Roxanne, Jenny A-W & Rob have been busy working toward 2 playgrounds to be dismantled shortly then transported to DIK for storage until they are shipped overseas.

Our International committee have been negotiating a Rotary Peace Pole to be installed at Callington Primary School, with the costing just being quoted this week.

Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds (RORP) update

Saturday/Sunday 15th/16th August and Saturday22nd August saw Rotarians from a number of Clubs (predominantly from Mount Barker and Group 7) came together at RARE to load 12 playgrounds into a shipping container bound for Timor Leste – leaving the RARE premises on Tuesday 25th – taking a shipping route from Adelaide to Singapore, then Darin and finally to Timor Leste (who would have known that was the cheapest route). Once the playgrounds were loaded, the remaining space in the container was filled with sports equipment, chairs, tables, children’s bikes, stationery and books, books and more books for all levels from preschool, to early primary, primary, high school - covering a huge range of subjects and fiction - to teacher reference books. As seen in the photo, even refrigerators were loaded at the request of schools and Rotary Clubs in Timor Leste. The RORP team thanks all those involved over the 3 days for their collecting, sorting, and loading of the container.

The next shipment is already in the planning stages and local clubs are co-ordinating the dismantle of more playgrounds with Mypolonga Primary School playground to be dismantled on Thursday 10th September. For more details on this project, contact Rob Walters - you will need a current Working With Children Check to participate in the dismantle.

Note: a load of medical items, stationery and school uniforms was taken to RARE on the day. This cleared a large space in our Rotary Shed, ready for more to be accepted.

A relaxing Activity

How does our Secretary, Julieanne relax on a weekend? – She joins a group of like-minded individuals at the Murray Bridge Regional gallery and undertakes a workshop on Kingston Weaving – “a First Nations weaving, yarning and sculpture project that explores the return of water in the South East of SA. The project interconnects traditional weaving techniques, language and knowledge towards the creation of a large-scale art installation of enduring cultural significance”

Chat with Julieanne to hear all about her experience, explore this skill further and maybe even join in the next workshop.

Meet via Zoom

During Covid, our club met via Zoom to allow all members access to our weekly gatherings.

If Zoom was available on a weekly or as requested method of joining our gatherings, would you use it?

Please advise President Simon if this facility would help you engage with our club.

Aged & Carers Expo 2026

Over 30 Service and Support agencies partnered with the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge to present the Aged and Carers Expo at the Murray Bridge Town Hall on 6th August.
Those attending came from locations across the Murraylands, Upper South East, the Adelaide Hills and surrounding areas.
Varied stalls showcased the vast range of local services available.
Led by Rotarian John Whimpress, members assisted throughout the day providing guidance for attendees, ensuring the BBQ was always providing food and ensuring the event was successful.
Due to the support shown, there is definitely a need for this Expo as an ongoing event.

West Lakes Rotary - Visiting Murray Bridge

RC West Lakes are visiting the Murray Bridge/Tailem Bend area on the weekend 7/8 November.

On the Saturday night, 7 November, we will be having a meal and would be pleased if members of both your Clubs see fit to attend. We haven’t organised a venue yet, really depends on numbers. It would be great to mix and share stories.

Please contact Andrew De Garis if you are keen to be part of this evening meal
Editor Note - Andrew is the District End Polio Champion and is always keen to promote the project. Maybe a guest speaker at one of our Murray Bridge Club meetings?
