Here we are, mid-way through March – where has the time gone?
Tuesday night we shared in our monthly planning session through Committees under the guidance of Directors – the conversation is always inspirational as members plan on the next ways our club can Unite For Good and provide Service Above Self.
Members were able to voice their opinions/concerns during the discussion on the ByLaws. Special thanks to those who chatted with me at the end of the night, as well as those who have phoned/met with me since Tuesday – I will take these ideas/views to the Board meeting on Tuesday evening on your behalf.
This week I visited the Yarn Groups at the Library and saw groups of enthusiastic volunteers creating beanies for our Pioneer Adventure Day and scarves for our Bags For Blokes. Others were busy creating their own projects, or working on articles for a variety of charities. The richness of our community volunteers is never to be underestimated. If you have any spare yarns – any colour, any ply, wool or acrylic – please consider donating to the group through Rotarian Jenny Phillips.
The rest of my week has been devoted to working on the Pioneer Adventure Day – getting sponsors, organisations to volunteer & attend and organising activities for the farming families on the day
Care Packs are still in need of items – personal care items for males/females, adults/teens and children – please bring any items along on any Tuesday evening
A Grocery Appeal has commenced – looking for non-perishable grocery store items to be given to farming families on the day – items can be brought along on any Tuesday night, or spread the word – drop-off boxes are located at The Standard Office, Swanport Road, and at Old Tailem Town at the moment. Know of somewhere else to locate a box? See me and we can organise a box for the business
We have a volunteer who wants to offer an activity on the day – creating hearts – see pictures below – and is in need of some embroidery threads – the 6-strand variety - any colours, to be used on the day to create Hearts of Hope as part of an activity on The Yellow Brick Road throughout the town. Please bring them along for me to pass onto the volunteer – she already has the felt for hearts and the filling to make at least 500 hearts
There are still some vacancies in the Entertainment section – so if you know face painters, bands, musicians, magicians, any creative entertainers, please let me know
On a personal note: I have dehydrated 50kg tomatoes (including 12kg cocktail tomatoes); 40 kg peaches; 21kg figs and approx. 60 loaves of bread (into seasoned breadcrumbs) amongst other fruits and vegetables for some pantry meal packs to be assembled later into April. Special thanks to those members who have sourced the fresh products from their own gardens, or from the gardens or friends as this has reduced costs to date – only having to purchase the packaging for the final product.
This week we are privileged to hear from Gino Martino on the topic of Australian Portable Camps and The Van of Hope. Please consider bringing your partner or friend or those you invited to the Rotary Showcase event. I am sure they will find the topic inspirational
And remember: “When we work together, we multiply our impact. Let’s continue supporting one another with kindness and collaboration’
