     PRESIDENT'S ROUND UP 12th November

I hope you all survived our wild weather over the weekend, and you were fortunate enough to miss out on any destruction. I must say I don’t believe I have seen so much rain in such a short time since I arrived to Murray Bridge some twenty years ago.
I noticed at last weeks meeting we all appeared to achieve a lot of business through our committee meetings along with other information from members minutes and I hope all went well for the members who volunteered for other projects over the weekend.
I would like to thank Rotarian Darryl for representing our Rotary Club at the Remembrance ceremony as I was in Adelaide at the time, and we look forward to his presentation on Kokoda on Tuesday.
Thank you to the members who filled in the sheet with protentional people who could be interested in Rotary, and this is a good starting point, so please keep thinking of others who could be placed on this list.
Look forward to your company at this week’s meeting.

Christmas Gift List

Our Rotary Christmas meeting is to be held on December 13th at the Murray Bridge Golf Club.
Apparently Santa has lost his list of children eligible to receive a gift. He is hoping to fit us into his busy round of engagements.
If you are bringing a child who is 12 years old or younger, please advise our elf helper Jenny Phillips.
Jenny needs to know the childs age, gender and name.

Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment

(RARE, Formerly DIK)
On Saturday 12th November, 5 Murray Bridge Rotarians and partners participated in the D9510 RAWCS/RARE Working Bee. Arriving just before 9-30am, we unloaded the items our club was donating - including bolts of fabrics, a walker (donated by Rotarian Peter Jarvis, Rotary Club of Berri) and over 40 A4 Size empty boxes (collected from MBHS). We registered and were set to a range of tasks including:
  • General yard maintenance - grubbing out tree roots preventing water run-away
  • Gutter cleaning of the buildings
  • Sorting medical equipment
  • Organising and cleaning furniture
  • Sorting and boxing books - over 20 of the empty boxes we delivered at 9-30 were filled by noon ready for overseas
  • Sorting and bagging of second hand toys
  • Working on Wheelchair Restoration (Rotary Club of Largs Bay)
  • Loading equipment into the next shipping container for next shipment out
  • General classification of goods to be stored
Those working outdoors were immediately re-assigned indoor tasks as soon as lightning struck and the rain appeared to set in for the afternoon. By noon, we were all invited to lunch - BBQ and a beautify array of homemade slices, cakes, brownies and muffins

Our club members received a large storage bag full of brand new toys to be donated to Foodbank for their Christmas Hampers

A great Rotary opportunity where members gave service, shared fellowship and enjoyed the day.
Roxanne.

Connecting Settlement and Industry
CSCI Stakeholders Forum Nov 3rd 2022

Presentation by Rotarian John Scarvelis Chair Murraylands Multicultural Network MB Town Hall
The Murraylands Multicultural Network was launched at the Rotary Murraylands Multicultural Festival in 2006 after about 12 months of discussions between Rotary Club of MB President Elect John Scarvelis and CEO of the Migrant Resource Centre Eugenia Tsoulis regarding Festival Funding and considerable networking with funding sources and the industry. The Network has since become a model of introduction of new settlers to Regional Areas.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.

Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
