     PRESIDENT'S ROUND UP 28th MAY

I believe last Tuesdays meeting was very interesting and it was also rewarding to see the commitment from both teacher Ty and student Frazer from the Murray Bridge High School project. I found this to be informative and interesting presentation and am sure we as a club will be able to assist with this project.
Thanks to Sam for organising a great price for the 45 headsets and others items for the Music for Dementia program.
I would also like to thank Simon for the work he and his team have come up with the rebranding of Going Bush to three days at Calperum in October. This will mean we will be calling for members who are willing to assist Simon on this camp.
As I said last week, we will need to keep up with the changes in how we as a club handle food for community functions. Also, insurance will need to be handled in a more efficient way.
Watch out for the green sheets from Jim Cundy as I know he has a couple more events coming up.
Don’t forget to inform PE Gordon of your intentions for our Club Change Over on the 24th June
Remember to bring your thinking cap on Tuesday.

Rotary International Convention
Melbourne 2023

As you read this, the 2023 Rotary International Convention is underway in Melbourne.
i am priviledged to be amongs 12000 Rotarians from across the globe who have gathered in Melbourne to celebrate the great works done by Rotatary over the last twelve months. There are posts on our Facebook page showing a few of the House of Friendship (or Showcase as it is known in our Rotary District) stalls that are promoting every conceivable avenue of service or project. Posts do not show the interaction or diversity of humanity present at this event but please read them to get a brief understanding.
The above photos shows the contingent from our Club and an image of Peace Poles. This is a wonderful way to promote Peace in our communities.
Saturday was the official opening of the House Of Friendship with Sunday being the official opening of the Convention at Rod Laver Arena.
This was a spectacular event with a highlight being the Welcome To Country & Flag Ceremony.
The afternoon was spent back in the Melbourne Exhibition & Concention Centre attending several info sessions and learning about many facets of Rotary. Following days are in a similar vein and i look forward to learning from others.

Meeting Report 23rd May

Murray Bridge High School Teacher Ty Burkett assisted by year 9 student Frazer Hicks highlighted the school works program to support students looking to be employed in trades careers at this weeks Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Meeting. Ty was introduced by Rotarian Roxanne Rowland as a PE teacher, has had trade training, plays football for the Jervois Football Club of which he is also a Life Member. He has arranged a range of projects throughout the Murraylands since taking on this role including landscaping at the Murray Bridge RSL, construction at the Mt Barker Woolworths site as work experience, a Bush Tucker garden at the MB Children's Centre, building a Todler Area at the Jervois Football/Netball Club, Council Tree Planting projects, painting and maintenance at other local football clubs and working in Aged Care with some great feedback. Student confidence and improved school attendance are a significant benefit. Volunteering aspects become obvious to the students and social media is used to communicate, report and promote activities. Fifty four students in two elective classes are involved in the current program enabling the students learning in the workplace, develop and reflect on their capabilities, interests and aspirations.
