The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge was acknowledged by Bunnings and in particular Director Roxanne Rowland for her partnership building and organisational skills in convening BBQ's at the Murray Bridge store during the Covid period. The Bunnings management team Jack Milton and Darryl Bonham came to our meeting at the invitation of Simon Sickerdick to gain first hand knowledge of how Rotary works in the local and international community. From China to Murray Bridge: Migrants take a leap on Australian Citizenship Day

Jianling Huang is still more comfortable speaking Mandarin than English, but now she’s as Aussie as any of us.

She and her children, Ruohua and Suyi, were three of the seven new Australians who made their citizenship pledges in Murray Bridge on Friday, Australian Citizenship Day.

Don’t mistake them for newcomers, though – they have lived in the Murraylands for about six years.

Michael and Valanique Callaghan were in the same basket.

They came over from New Zealand about 14 years ago, but said they wanted to be able to have their say by voting in Australian elections

“It allows us to be included in the community,” Ms Callaghan said.

“It’s a good little community – a great place to raise kids, having done it with my five.”

The two other new Australians sworn in on the day were Marcus Myers, from the United States, and Ivy Tubigan, from the Phillippines.

Mayor Brenton Lewis encouraged each of them to get involved in the community, if they were not already, and contribute to celebrations such as the Murraylands Multicultural Yuntu-Walun Festival and All Culture Fest.

“A lot of our new settlers work in the food processing industry,” he said.

“We know how tough that is, how tough the hours are and the travel time ... but take the time to put into the community.

“Teach us about your culture, your customs – we want to hear that, we want to be richer – and take in some of what we've got to offer.”

"Safari 2021" - Report

The Rotary "Safari" held this last weekend was attended by 18 members, partners and friends.
Venue was the Riverbend Caravan Park at Renmark with many being ble to camp right on the river in beautiful surroundings.
It was great to have the company of Bronwyn and Andrew Heard from Mobilong along with Andrew and Bozena Mills. Andrew is a past member of our club. In addition, on Sunday afternoon our past president Graham & Judith Coventry were able to join us for happy hour and dinnner.
Each evening we gathered around the firepit on the river bank. One of the photos shows Ron's contribution to the fire.
Whilst there were no formal programme, many of us gathered for lunch at the Riverland Wine Centre at Lyrup for lunch. This was a recommendation from Simon and it did not dissapoint.
Saturday evening was again the firepit but with quizmaster Gordon conducting a fiercly competitive quiz. Happy hour tended to morph into dinner so there was plenty of food to bring home. Browyn prepared a fabulous jam roly poly to share with us all. Normally cooked over the coal, it was this time cooked over the gas. Well done Bronwyn. Thanks to Sue Frazer who provided a celebration cake for one of our members forthcoming birthday.
Sunday was a time for fellowship followed by a visit to the Woolshed Brewery for a relaxing time overlooking the river.
Happy Hours (plural) were a great time for members to interact and enjoy each others company with the consensus being "lets do it again next year".

Thanks to all who were part of the getaway, you made it a great event.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.

Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
