EXCITEMENT is building in Murray Bridge with the opening of the new Bridgeport Hotel early next month fast approaching. At this weeks Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Meeting at the Golf Club our guest speaker was Carla Balacco a TAFE lecturer in Hospitality who has been hired as a trainer for new staff at the hotel. Carla has a Bachelor Degree in Hospitality Management and has had an interesting career so far. The highlight has been serving on the 7Star Luxuary Yacht in the Bahamas shown in the photo above to some illustrious guests including the Gates family of Microsoft. Like many in hospitality she has experience in many jobs including Duty Manager at Regency Cinemas, Morphettville Racecourse, Silver service and fine dining, Bar service and Barista Coffee. She has travelled to London working at the Intercontinental Parklane, Savoy Hotel, and through Europe. She spent two years in Greece as a Tour Guide including a Busabout Tours training trip for 6 weeks. Training staff in Murray Bridge is her current experience. Locals have made up the majority of staff being trained including new settlers from the Murraylands Multicultural Network. Exciting times indeed.
End Polio Now
In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.
Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr
Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.
It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.
If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
What is polio?
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.

RYLA Oceania has been announced as the runners-up of the inaugural Leaders in RYLA Awards and they couldn’t be more excited!
“We are beyond thrilled to see our program recognised by Rotary International especially in our inaugural year, and look forward to more growth and success in the future,” RYLA Oceania Co-Founder Rebecca Fry said.
The Leaders in RYLA Awards help share best practices to strengthen RYLA events and activities and promote inspirational RYLA stories.
In 2020, more than 200 RYLAs around the world were nominated for the awards, which were judged by Rotary International staff members for their impact, reach, engagement and ability to adapt.
“RYLA Oceania impressed as innovative and celebrated for our youth voice and partnerships,” Rebecca said.
RYLA Oceania is the region’s most exciting and innovative program for RYLA Alumni across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands. Its goal is to develop a network of the brightest global citizens and leaders who are engaged, educated and pushed to achieve measurable results both individually and as a group within their communities.
“Rotary invests in around 1000 RYLArians each year. They return from their District RYLA programs as stronger leaders, energised and ready to take on the world. RYLA Oceania was an idea of District RYLA Leaders around Australia and New Zealand, to provide an avenue for RYLA Alumni to continue their leadership journey through Rotary,” Rebecca said.
