Hope you are all keeping warm in this rather cold inclement weather.

Several Rotarians and partners enjoyed an evening of great entertainment at the Mobilong Rotary Club’s Changeover Dinner.  Bad “Dad Jokes” aside it was a wonderful evening of celebration.  The only downside is that Rob keeps singing “Sadie our Leading Lady” as he walks around the house. That song is difficult to get out of one’s head.

Our speaker on Tuesday, our own Lisa Foster spoke to us about the training and use of rats and dogs to clear land mines in Cambodia., by APOPO.  It was a fascinating topic and the rats - Giant African Pouched rats - actually look rather cute. These hero rats and dogs can be adopted on a monthly or annual basis as APOPO is a charity.  A great gift for grandsons? Oh and did I mention that these rats can sniff out tuberculosis as well.

Tuesday also saw the new Board meeting for the first time. A lot of things were discussed by the Directors and you will hear full reports of their plans for the coming year on Tuesday at Club Assembly. Exciting things are happening.

Irene Fenart

20 years ago, at the age of 14, I made one of the most influential decisions of my life - becoming a youth exchange student with the hashtag#RotaryClub and moving to hashtag#Australia.

This decision had a butterfly effect on my life and I am forever grateful for the opportunity. 🦋🙏🏼

I want to thank my parents for supporting me in this journey of growth and self-discovery. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my wonderful host families in Australia, who took me in and cared for me as their own.

This experience not only allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture and way of life, learn a new language but it also shaped me into the person I am today.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in this unforgettable chapter of my life.

Bread Tags For Wheelchairs

One of our recycling projects is the collection of bread tags.
The story below was published on Facebook and demonstrates the difference we can make.

We have now collected 13 tonnes of bread tags for recycling. That's more than the weight of two African elephant bulls!
This photo was taken at Addo, an elephant reserve in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, close to where we have provided some of our wheelchairs.
Can't believe we have shifted a couple of elephants over the last 5 years!

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
