The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge very successfully cooked breakfast and lunch for the Annual Australian Citroen Car Rally at Johnstone Park in Murray Bridge today. It was the 54th National Rally with a gathering of Citroens from all over Australia from the 1920's through to current models. Many Rotarian volunteers pitched in to serve the large crowd in perfect autumn weather which the crowd appreciated. A huge thanks to the many Rotarians who participated. The everpopular Motorkhana continued after lunch at the Murray Bridge Showgrounds ; an event where old and new Citroens ran through tight clover leaf and slalom courses, against the clock, to see who was the best driver/car combination at Cit-in for 2023. Happy St Patrick's Day ! John Scarvelis
Editors Note - The Citroen Club made a donation in excess of $4000 to our charity for the day, FoodBank. This was announced to staff during the week. WELL DONE
Rotarians Jill and Jack Reddin spoke about their trip to Mongolia for two weeks at the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge on Tuesday night. Jill's son Troy had worked in Mongolia as a mining engineer and motivated the visit. The other motivation was the Mongolian Rotary Playground project which Jack has so doggedly progressed with the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge and the Rotary Club of Mobilong. Mongolia is a country of 3.2 million people with 6 months of freezing winter and 6 weeks of Summer Jack said. They met nomads and townsfolk. Genghis Khan was a dominant factor in their history. They connected with the Rotary Club of Gerege who will be in partnership with us in the Playground project. Jill was most impressed with the scenery, the forests, and the lakes. They went right to the edge of the Gobi Desert. Mongolia boarders China and Russia. We look forward to progressing the Playground project and associated materials to utilise the opportunity to completely fill the container which is currently stored and being packed. Another Rotary project highlighting Rotarians as people of Action turning an idea into reality. John Scarvelis.
School of St Jude Update
Greetings from The School of St Jude.
At the beginning of the year, our students came together one afternoon and wrote letters to the sponsors who support their scholarships.
It’s always a happy and beautiful moment seeing our students sit quietly, write and decorate letters thanking you for your support and letting you know how their holiday was, what they expect this year and the new clubs, sports or subjects they will be doing this year.
Kindly find attached letters from the students whose academic scholarship you support. We hope you will enjoy reading them.
All at Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, thank you for your continued support of the academic scholarships, and for joining a hand in educating the future leaders of Tanzania.
If you wish to reply to any of the letters, please feel free to respond via this email address, and we will be happy to pass it on for you.

InternationalWomensDayReport
In attending the International Women's Day Breakfast hosted by Rotary at Veale Gardens Lesley and I were inspired by the Guest Speaker - Dr Melanie Bagg, GAICD, CEO of National Youth Science Forum and alumni of Murray Bridge High School. To be appointed as the CEO of NYSF, Melanie was chosen in a competitive selection process from a strong field of candidates. NYSF is delighted to have a person of her calibre as the CEO and the first woman to be at the helm. Melanie chose to speak on "Cracking the Code: Innovation for a Gender Equal Future" and while her current work is in the STEM sector, the evidence presented applies to a much wider audience, regardless of gender, age, language or cultural background, socioeconomic status, childcare responsibilities, or living in the city or regional and remote locations.
When concluding her presentation, Melanie challenged all Rotarians present to be leaders in connecting and encouraging all young women to consider diverse futures, including those career paths that have not been invented yet. She reminded us of her leadership journey which included Rotary programs like RYLA, RYPEN and NYSF and thanked Rotary for being supportive of her journey to a more Gender Equal Future.

Ugandan Orphanage
Dear Rotary, Last year I spent time in Ruhija, South-West Uganda. There I met a woman called Happy, who is Vice-Chairwoman of the local community and Director of an Orphanage School, which provides food and accommodation for all its students. I also spent time with the Batwa people, who live on the outskirts of Ruhija after being forcibly removed from the nearby forest when it was turned into a national park 30 or so years ago. For my birthday this year (today), I am doing a fundraiser for the orphanage and the Batwa people. Having communicated with Happy, the funds for the orphanage would go towards school supplies, food, clothes, and mattresses. When there I was struck that 3 kids needed to share the same bed, on hard metal frames with mattresses that were almost completely fallen apart. We shared lunch together, and the 30 or 40 children shared between them what would be lunch for one or two people in Australia. I have never met children so eager to learn, but quality food and sleep are important for learning so helping with this would help the children’s education.
Our Club has received another "gift card" from Dakes in the amount of $125.00 through their Community Dollars programme. Thank you to all members who have shopped at Drakes and registered their barcode. Please keep on doing this as it helps pay for groceries bought for bbqs etc. Any members who havn't a Drakes tag please see me. The tags are not just for members, you can give them to friends and family. You can use them at any Drakes store in South Australia.
