Tuesday 7th July: First meeting of the Rotary year went well with our committee members working on a new schedule, we do achieve a lot in a short time which is the nature of our club. A couple of award presentations with Gary Frazer receiving a Paul Harris Fellow Saphire, Penny Heighes “Avenue of Service Citation for Community support”, followed by “Create Lasting Impact” Rotary pins presented in recognition of their role during our Changeover to John Scarvelis for the International Toast, Kevin Dalton Toast to the Partners, & Sandy Dalton Response on behalf of the Partners.

District Changeover Wednesday 8th July: we had a good representation at the changeover with Pres Simon (me), Lyn, Judy (friend of Rotary Edwardstown), PP Roxanne, Pres Bronwyn Heard (Rotary Club of Mobilong), Pres Phil Roberts (Rotary Club of Tailem Bend). This was a lunch meeting/ changeover for Rotary Clubs of Adelaide & Morialta, ceremony went well with some presentations of PHFs. Immediate Past Pres. Rajeev Kamineni delivered a brief report of the 2025-26 year, then inducting the new 2026-27 President Tim Mee providing a brief presentation of the new District 9510 plan, finishing off with the introduction of the new District Board of Directors.

Vocational visit Thursday 9th July:   Group visit to the South Australian immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI), based at Adelaide University, is a leading cancer research institute that combines genomics, immunotherapy, and clinical research to develop more effective, personalised cancer treatments. Working with healthcare and research partners, SAiGENCI focuses on computational oncology, cancer epigenetics, resistance prevention, and immunotherapy to improve patient outcomes and survival.

Attending 20 Rotarians including partners, granddaughter and Cecily representing Mobilong.

Jack handed out an information flyer at our Tuesday evening meeting prior to our visit for all to gain a better understanding prior to our visit. Everyone was on time which is a great achievement when heading into the city during the peak traffic time, we gathered in the foyer then jumping into 2 lifts for a quick ride to level 9.

Mitsi Hornby greeted us on arrival escorting everyone into a meeting room for morning tea and a presentation from Dr Luke Isbel prior to being split into 3 groups for our tour around level 6 & 9. It was inspirational meeting some of the lab techs, they all young people who love their work & shine with high dedication toward their cause. Prior to finishing we presented Mitsi with a Certificate of Appreciation along with our Rotary Club of Murray Bridge flag.

Where to from here: we will investigate their current options for sponsorship, philanthropy, or industry funding toward the South Australian immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI), you can collaborate directly through corporate partnerships, make targeted donations for research, or fund student and research positions. https://give.adelaideuni.edu.au/saigenci

We then all walked along North Tce. for our group lunch date at the Strathmore Hotel, the meal was great with everyone enjoying the opportunity for fellowship and fun.

Saturday 11th July, we supported the Bunnings BBQ, with a split shift 8:30am to 12:30pm Sam Cozens, Jim Mason, John Whimpress & Margaret Whitehead and the arvo 12:30pm to 4:00pm Liz Cozens, Jim Cundy, Roxanne Rowland & me. These days are great for a catchup with lots of varied conversations & heaps of laughter. It was good to see some of our Rotarians & Friends call by and support our day, Jenny P & Peter, Suellen & Mark, plus Mainto called in to introduce his partner Ynko both Timorese they also enjoyed a couple of Jims snags. It was a very busy day with plenty of sales for people looking for some warm comfort food, while we experienced a couple of varied weather elements with some sunshine, gusting winds and reasonable rain, we all survived to do it again at our next Bunnings event.
