Another energyfilled week we experienced this week. Here’s a quick overview:
Tuesdays gathering over dinner included speakers – sharing their passions of Service within our wider community
We heard from Teppo Lindberg – our International Exchange student from Finland in 2012. He spoke to members about completing his university training in Geology, his military service and his current employment.
Members also heard from Jen and Rob Carey about the newly formed Charity – Country Education Foundation that has been set up to assist rural and regional students in the Murraylands and Mallee area to gain grants to assist with furthering their studies, be it University, Trade or VET training. Providing the applicant can demonstrate a real need, they will be able to access funding to assist in meeting that need.
I attended the November Dementia Friendly meeting which meets regularly to discuss options to assist those living with dementia to gain assistance in a variety of ways. Those present were keen to hear about our Music for Dementia program and are keen to include our brochure in their packages of information.
Rotary Calendars – Jacquie is still calling all members who have outstanding calendars to return them this Tuesday as she is looking to have any ‘unsold’ calendars available at the upcoming markets to ensure all are sold. Please remember to bring yours to the dinner on Tuesday
Raffle tickets – are now quite limited – please organise your last-minute gifts or Christmas Stocking fillers before they sell out
Shout NO! Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Day – Friday 28 Nov – 7 Rotarian and their partners attended the event and proudly marched to STAND UP, SPEAK OUT, AND ACT to increase awareness of domestic violence in our community – Thanks to members of the Mobilong Rotary Club for the great BBQ foods and to The Station for bottles of water, apples and bananas. It was great to see schools involved (although this sector could have used more attendees – something to work on for 2026). Those in attendance also heard from Kai Martin on his vision for 2026 – a 500km walk in 5 days looking to raise $50000 for Education of young people and also his possible Charity – watch this space
I attended the Murray Bridge Lions Club 60th Birthday – Saturday 29th November – it’s always great to see how other Service Clubs organise their activities and share in the fellowship with a range of local and regional Lions and other service club attendees.
Elizabeth Crawley’s Bags for Blokes Update – Now 521 bags. 5 bags from the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge heading to Mannum for SAPOL to place in their local community

Another 5 ‘Bags for Blokes’ have been completed. Elizabeth Crawley, the founder of Bags for Blokes, along with Malcolm, Jim and Penny from the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge delivered a further 5 bags to SAPOL. They were received by Senior Sergeant David Brown, SAPOL Officer of the year. This makes a total of 21 for Murray Bridge and a total of 516 overall.
On Wednesday 12th November, we were able to witness the unveiling of the anticipated Lymph scanner – a non-invasive, hand-held device that uses microwaves to measure the localized water content in skin, aiding in the early detection of lymphedema. It is particularly important after surgeries for breast, gynaecological or melanoma cancers. It can also be used to measure the effectiveness of treatments, by assessing the extent of swelling in specific areas like the face, neck or limbs. This is so important because early detection means early intervention. For the patients, it means fewer hospital visits, less discomfort, and a much better quality of life and it means local and regional patients don’t need to travel to Adelaide for care. The purchase of the device was a combined effort of The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, The Rotary Club of Mobilong, Murray Bridge Lions, Murray Bridge City Lions and the hospital Sunshine Volunteers.
