     PRESIDENT'S ROUND UP 11th December

I was saddened to hear of the passing of past member Andrew Mills, and as President of The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge we wish to offer our condolences to Andrew’s family. With Andrew’s jovial manner he always managed to make our meetings very light-hearted and enjoyable.
For members information, Andrew’s funeral will be held at the Murray Bridge racecourse on Thursday 15th at 2pm.

On another matter Robin LeGallez is recovering from fractures in his leg, and I am sure Robin will be able to make use of his rehabilitation by having the time to evaluate many varieties of red wine.
As this will be my final report for this year (I will be away for the Christmas breakfast), I would like to thank all members and partners for supporting our club over the past six months.
I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday for our Christmas dinner.

Field of dreams
Greetings from Arusha, Tanzania.

Today I am writing to update you on the good news that we have started receiving some of the Rotary Club pennants from various Rotary Clubs😊. I grabbed some of our Earlyactors to assist in putting up the banners we received during their club session. I have attached a few photos for you to see how our Rotary display board now looks with the new Rotary Club pennants, including one from your club.

All at the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, thank you for your support, and I wish you a lovely week.

Kindest regards,
Winnie

ART SHOW  1st -23rd APRIL 2023

Dear Supporter,
We are no stranger to emergency food relief, the bushfires that ravaged the state in 2019/20, COVID and now the looming flood crisis that has been declared as a major emergency in the Riverland by the South Australian Government. In response to this, Foodbank has been appointed as the primary provider of food relief for impacted Riverland communities.
As a supporter or volunteer for Foodbank SA, I wanted to give you an update on what we are doing in relation to the flood crisis.

Foodbank's role & response
In line with our mission, our number one priority is to ensure that we provide immediate food relief where it's needed the most
Our Foodbank Riverland Operation based in Berri is in the heart of the Riverland. We have commenced distribution of additional emergency food and water supplies to Riverland communities from Berri and our Murraylands operation located in Murray Bridge. This support will be made available to individuals and families impacted by the floods including via Emergency Relief Centres being established by Housing SA.
Our Foodbank RAA Mobile Food Hub will continue to deliver food relief to Riverland communities, including Berri, Renmark, Waikerie, Loxton and Barmera to ensure no one goes without.
Foodbank Riverland Flood Appeal
Our regional communities are 33% more likely to experience food insecurity and they have faced so many challenges in the last few years: fires, pandemic, fruit fly and now floods. We know our Riverland communities will be hit hard, with homes and businesses destroyed and families left homeless before Christmas.
We have already seen an increase in locals requiring our Mobile Hub food service as power outages and floods put already struggling individuals and families at risk.
For those that would like to support, Foodbank SA will be accepting donations of food and funds to support our food relief activities in the Riverland. Funds will cover the cost of food, water, and freight to those hardest hit in the coming weeks and months ahead.
100% of your donation will be used to get food and water to those who need it the most in the Riverland. For every $1 donated to Foodbank, we can purchase $6 worth of food thanks to our relationship with food retailers and manufacturers.

At ShelterBox, we believe that shelter is a basic human right.

Dear ROTARY,

To mark World Human Rights Day and promote shelter as a human right, we'll be holding our annual Giving Day on Friday 9th.

With over 100 million people made homeless by disaster and conflict, we will continue to raise awareness of the issue with our #ShelterIsAHumanRight campaign.

Right now, ShelterBox is busy in Pakistan, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Syria, Yemen and the Lake Chad Basin, where hundreds of thousands have been forced to flee their homes.

Below, long-term ShelterBox supporter and friend, Stephen Fry, introduces a film is based on an exclusive poem by Ukrainian poet, Serhiy Zhadan which asks a simple question with a tangle of answers. What would you take?

You don't have to wait until 9th Dec to make a difference. Now, more than ever, shelter saves lives; we need your support.

All the best

Mike

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.

Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
