Our first meeting of the new Rotary year were committees which gave everyone a chance to plan activities and goals for this year and review ongoing projects. Looking forward to our Board Meeting where I will hear more about their plans.

Since my last edition of notes Robin and Rhonda LeGallez, Roxanne Rowland, Rob and myself attended the District Changeover welcoming District Governor Marie-Louise Lees. Robin received an award for the work he does at District level. Congratulations Robin the Award is well earned.

Rotary members Jacquie Best, Jack Reddin, Sue Foster, Andrew Heard Marg Whitehead, Steve Hobbs, Brian Tucker and his brother Merv have received recognition in the Australian Wildlife Conservancy Magazine for their work at Kalamurina.  The article noted that they had never had eight volunteers on site at the same time. “Once the volunteers found their rhythm a significant amount of work was accomplished. One of the big jobs scheduled was rebuilding the roof of the science shed….it was a particularly big job and would have taken a very long time without thee volunteers.  The Rotary volunteers also paved the front of the lunchroom, fixed approximately. 3.5km of fence lines painted and installed a fence to the veggie patch.”

Wow! What a great effort - well done!

Irene Fenart

20 years ago, at the age of 14, I made one of the most influential decisions of my life - becoming a youth exchange student with the hashtag#RotaryClub and moving to hashtag#Australia.

This decision had a butterfly effect on my life and I am forever grateful for the opportunity. 🦋🙏🏼

I want to thank my parents for supporting me in this journey of growth and self-discovery. I also want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my wonderful host families in Australia, who took me in and cared for me as their own.

This experience not only allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture and way of life, learn a new language but it also shaped me into the person I am today.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in this unforgettable chapter of my life.

Bread Tags For Wheelchairs

One of our recycling projects is the collection of bread tags.
The story below was published on Facebook and demonstrates the difference we can make.

We have now collected 13 tonnes of bread tags for recycling. That's more than the weight of two African elephant bulls!
This photo was taken at Addo, an elephant reserve in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, close to where we have provided some of our wheelchairs.
Can't believe we have shifted a couple of elephants over the last 5 years!

WE CARE - CALLY CAMPOUT

The We Care - Cally Campout was a great success with Rotarians showing what volunteering is all about. Support for the event was amazing with a large community contingent attending on an extremely cold evening.
Our members lifted to the need to support others and the teams working to provide food to the attendees never failed to deliver. The serving teams worked tirelessly as the numbers seemed to be never ending but they delivered without complaint. Those cooking continued to keep the bain marie full.
It was a lesson to us all as to the generosity of our business community and in particular Australian Portable Camps who ensured the evening was a success.
APC's support ensured that attendees were able to enjoy a free evening of fun, food and keep warm around the numerous fire troughs whilst enjoying the musical entertainment.
Well done to all Rotarians and Australian Portable Camps as this event epitomises the concept of helping others.
I was proud to be associated with the teams at Callington.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
