As we build up to the Christmas and Holiday season, and count down to the end of 2025, the activities of our Club are ever present in our wider community
Tuesday night and we held our AGM – the time when Directors and other Board members celebrate the activities of the Club in a wide range of Projects/Activities and Causes in the first 6 months of the Rotary year. Directors also shared their plans for the remaining 6 months of the 2025/26 Rotary year. Then we looked to those members who will lead us into the future – my sincere thanks to all those members who raised a hand, had a conversation with President-Elect Simon and agreed to serve our club into the future – you are the Rotarians to lead us into the year beyond The Fit For Purpose plans, when we will again look to strengthen our membership through meaningful engagement and visions of a growing club to serve our community – locally, nationally and internationally
President Elect Simon also presented Rotary Club flags from the RC Launceston and the RC Hobart North from his (and Lyn’s) recent Tasmanian holiday where they were able to interact with other clubs and Rotarians to build relationships and share ideas.
Thanks to the Rotarianswho volunteered to cook and serve the BBQ at the Bunnings Family Night on Thursday – You were busy throughout the event cooking, serving sausages and drinks and greeting the large number of families who attended the free event. The Bunnings Gift Cards received for our service will be put to good use in future projects.
Thanks also to those who made items for the Rotary Trading Table also held at the Bunnings Family night. While some might consider the sales were slow, our table did fare a little better than other organisations present. The Bunnings Activities Coordinator, Tash, was extremely pleased with our efforts. Gift ideas that were not sold on the night, will all be suitable for the Trading Table at the Bremer Valley Art Market at Callington on Saturday 13th December, meaning I will not be asking for more items to be made for that event.
MBHS Robotics Championships – see the report included below for the update on our sponsorship of the MBHS students who are currently in Sydney attending the Macquarie University for the 2025 National FIRST Tech Challenge – students left MBHS on Friday for the competition – the third year M BHS has qualified to attend
MBHS Presentation Night – while this event was held on November 26th, we have been given access to the recipients of the 3 Rotary Awards: Saphire, Olivia and Tanaisha. We have also heard from our Music Bursary student of 2025, Aleisha - not only did she receive the 2025 Year 12 Music Award, but has also attended an audition at the Elders Conservatorium for Classical Performance. We wish Aleisha well on her Award and await the results of her audition
And now to the Activities of this week:
Tuesday 9th December: RC Murray Bridge Christmas Party – 6.00pm at Imperial Football Clubrooms
Thursday 11th December: Callington Primary School End of Year Visit to Semaphore Carousel. Followed by lunch at the Palais
Friday 12th December: Calendar Sales at Drakes
Saturday 13th December: Bremer Valley Art Market Tearooms and Trading Table

Murray Bridge High School Robotics students at National Championships
The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge has assisted with sponsorship of the MBHS Robotics Club for their trip to Macquarie University to be part of the National Competition. This is the third year the school has qualified to attend – where qualifications are based on competition results in the previous state competitions in that year. Our correspondence has been with Fiona Rabone – the Club mentor/staff member coordinating the MBHS teams throughout the year.
“The 2025 Australian FTC (First Tech Challenge) Championships have begun. Murray Bridge Teams actually made it to Macquarie University – despite Jetstar cancelling our Thursday flights AND the Harbour Bridge turning 6 lanes into 1. (being caught in a traffic jam at 11.00 pm on the Harbour Bridge with a group of teenage students was not in the plans). It’s time for fun!’ said Fiona. Students were amazed to find members of the 2023 MBHS team featured on the welcome banner – another promotion of the excellent work Fiona and her team have accomplished at MBHS.
First Tech Challenge students learn to think like engineers. Teams of up to 15 students design, build and program robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format against other teams. Robots are built from a reusable platform, powered by Android technology, and can be coded by a variety of levels of Java-based programming. Teams raise funds, design and market their team brand and do community outreach to earn specific awards. Each season concludes with an exciting FIRST Championship.
Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice Engineering principles while realising the value of hard work, innovation and working as a team. At the time of writing this article, MBHS was currently placed 3 (out of 42 teams) but this could change as some of the teams play their last match.
We await with baited breath to hear of their final results.
(Note: those who attended the MBHS Presentation Night will see one of the Year 12 Subject Prize winners, in the photo of the 2025 team – dedication to the team and the event – well done Lucas)

On Wednesday 12th November, we were able to witness the unveiling of the anticipated Lymph scanner – a non-invasive, hand-held device that uses microwaves to measure the localized water content in skin, aiding in the early detection of lymphedema. It is particularly important after surgeries for breast, gynaecological or melanoma cancers. It can also be used to measure the effectiveness of treatments, by assessing the extent of swelling in specific areas like the face, neck or limbs. This is so important because early detection means early intervention. For the patients, it means fewer hospital visits, less discomfort, and a much better quality of life and it means local and regional patients don’t need to travel to Adelaide for care. The purchase of the device was a combined effort of The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, The Rotary Club of Mobilong, Murray Bridge Lions, Murray Bridge City Lions and the hospital Sunshine Volunteers.
